This website is intented to provide information about both my practice and the practice of Western Herbal Medicine.

Western Herbal medicine is a patient centred approach to health where the individual is the focus of treatment rather than the disease. 

A consultation involves a thorough case-history taking, and may involve taking blood pressure, listening to the lungs or other appropriate examinations.

The treatment is directed not just at the symptoms of illness, but also at the underlying factors. These may be physical, mental or emotional.

The choice of herbs is based very much on the individual presentation, and the practitioners understanding of that particular illness. It is therfore not uncommon for prescriptions to vary between individuals presenting with the same condition. This treatment is commonly backed up by appropriate advice on lifestyle, and particularly nutrition.

Herbal medicines have an excellent saftey record in trained hands. When individually prescribed and combined by a trained medical herbalist they are more deeply effective than over-the-counter remedies.

Members of the Irish Institute of Medical Herbalists  have undergone a rigorous four year training (BSc Hons) in medical sciences, clinical skills, and herbal therapeutics. They are fully insured and adhere to a strict professional code of ethics and mandatory continuing professional development.
